Corporate Retail Operations
Nash Finch Company owns and operates a base of retail stores, principally supermarkets under the Econofoods, Family Thrift Center and Sun Mart trade names.
These corporate-owned stores are located primarily in the Upper Midwestern states of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin
Nash Finch Company's corporate retail operations focus on trade areas where Nash Finch stores command a #1 or #2 market share position. Corporate stores range from local, conventional stores in rural trade areas to large, modern supermarkets in growing urban markets.
Food Distribution
Through its food distribution segment, Nash Finch Company distributes and sells a full line of food products, including dry groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, fresh processed meat products and dairy products.
The Company also distributes a variety of non-food items, such as health and beauty aids, tobacco and paper products as well as cleaning supplies and small household items.
Most products are nationally advertised brands, although the company also sells several unbranded items, mostly meats and produce, purchased directly from various manufacturers, processors, suppliers or purchased indirectly from manufacturers’ representatives and brokers.
In addition, the Company distributes and sells private label products using its own trademarks and brand names.
Services for Independent Retailers
Nash Finch Company not only provides wholesale distribution to approximately 2,000 independent retailers, we also offer a broad range of retail services designed to boost retailers’ productivity and competitiveness.
Services include: promotion, advertising and merchandising programs; computerized ordering, receiving and scanning systems; computerized retail accounting, budgeting and payroll systems; personnel management and employee training; consumer and market research; store development services and insurance programs.
Additional services, including site selection, marketing studies, building design, store layout and equipment planning for the development of new stores and expansion of existing stores, provide continuing sales growth opportunities for Nash Finch Company.
Military Distribution
Nash Finch is one of the largest wholesale grocery distributors to military commissaries, providing storage, handling and transportation services to the bases, primarily undercontractual arrangements with manufacturers.
As ordered products are delivered, the company invoices the manufacturer for the cost of the merchandise delivered plus negotiated fees. While some manufacturers have distributed directly to the military commissaries in the past, Nash Finch has demonstrated a more cost-effective distribution network.
