The story of Kaiser Permanente is a history of excellence, a legacy of each generation’s contribution to understanding health and meeting the needs of members. By focusing on members’ needs, the people of Kaiser Permanente built the largest nonprofit health care organization in American history.*
Kaiser Permanente evolved from industrial health care programs for construction, shipyard, and steel mill workers during World War II. Its founders were Sidney Garfield, MD, and Henry J. Kaiser, who became partners in advancing the concept of prepaid health care.
Today, Kaiser Permanente is America’s leading nonprofit integrated health plan, serving approximately 8.7 million people in nine states and the District of Columbia. Thanks to the dedication of our 170,000 employees and physicians, in a single year we schedule more than 34 million outpatient visits, deliver 85,000 babies, perform 452,000 surgeries, and fill about 113 million prescriptions.
Kaiser Permanente is an organization that continually works to elevate the state of health care with progressive products, services, and advancements. Our vision of the future remains focused on improving the health of our members and the communities we serve.

Reward and Recognition Programs

Peer recognition programs enable employees to recognize the contributions of an individual, a team, or an entire department.
Service awards recognize employees for their years of dedication, with the first milestone at five years of service. Professions and positions may be singled out at different times. During Nurse Week, for example, we let our nurses know how greatly they are appreciated through a number of activities and special awards that recognize their invaluable contributions. We also recognize employees during Pharmacy Week, Respiratory Care Week, Secretary's Day, and during a variety of other times throughout the year.
Kaiser Permanente's substantial compensation and benefits package reflects our conviction that a rewarding working experience is directly related to the quality of care that our employees and physicians provide to our members and patients. We take pride in the compassion and dedication of our employees and find many ways to reward their hard work. In return, our employees take pride in being a part of a collaborative professional team focused on quality, service, and care.
