The history of Maple Knoll Communities, Inc. begins in 1848, when a group of concerned citizens of Cincinnati witnessed the untenable situation of elderly persons without families. Led by Mrs. Lydia Beecher, the stepmother of Harriet Beecher Stowe, this benevolent group created a home for these individuals and planted the seeds of what would become LifeSphere.
The history of this organization is a legacy of service to the community and to the welfare of older adults. Following this paragraph is a timeline that begins in 1848 and continues through today.
"We are building up an institution for future generations, and after we have passed away, will come the fruition of the good seed we have sown."
LifeSphere’s mission is to be a growing provider of outstanding facilities and services for the aging within the TriState area which allows those we serve to thrive in a safe, stimulating, and dignified environment. This will be accomplished through the practice of responsible fiscal stewardship.
AGING is a normal life process which people experience in different ways.
OLD AGE should not limit or change a person’s right to experience life to its fullest through self determination.
A CARING COMMUNITY recognizes that people are individuals with changing needs and seeks innovative approaches which emphasizes each person’s wholeness.
SERVICES should provide opportunities for personal growth, fulfillment, and choice.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND RESEARCH are important aspects of improving the quality of life and should be carried out in a manner which recognizes an individuals privacy, dignity, and lifestyle.
A CHARITABLE CORPORATION exists for and is responsible to the community which it serves.
A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM FOR THE ELDERLY goes beyond the provision of services within its own community and attempts to effect changes within society which lead toward a fuller life for all older people.
Our strength rests with our employees, all of whom contribute to the overall excellence of our organization.
